The pouring of cider is an Asturian tradition that consists of serve the drink from a considerable height, which allows the cider to oxygenate and release your flavor and scent characteristic. Cider pouring is an art that requires skill and practice and many Asturians pride themselves on being able to pour cider perfectly.
Every year in Gijón, the World's largest simultaneous pouring contest. This event attracts thousands of people each year, both locals and tourists, who gather in the West Beach to try to break the world record for simultaneous pouring of cider.
Gijón Cider Festival
To set the record, each person must have a bottle of cider and a glass in their possession and pour the cider at the same time for a period of 15 seconds. The event is year after year a success, managing to increase the number of participants and, therefore, improve the previous record. The simultaneous pouring of Gijón is a way of celebrating this tradition and also of promoting and publicizing Asturian cider and the culture of the region.
This contest is included within the Gijón Cider Festival, in which other activities are offered, such as cider tasting, music and traditional Asturian dances, as well as visits to cider presses and other places of tourist interest in the region.
